The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto formerly University of Sokoto is one of the four Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in Sokoto. The most peaceful university in Nigeria.
WELCOME TO USMANU DANFODIYO UNIVERSITY SOKOTO
The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (formerly University of Sokoto) is one of the four Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in September 1975 , at which time three University Colleges (now full-fledged Universities) were established.
The development of the university started on a temporary site (now called City Campus), situated along Sultan Abubakar Road, Sokoto. classes started in October 20th, 1977, with an initial enrolment of ninety-three undergraduate students for the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education and Bachelor of Science; and an academic staff strength of thirty-three.
Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto In January, 1978, one hundred and two students enrolled for a two-year pre-Degree Programme in the Humanities and Basics Sciences. With this modest start, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto formally graduated a total of seventy-two students during its first convocation held in November 22nd, 1980.
Presently, there are Ten faculties and a postgraduate school in the University. The faculties are: Agriculture, Arts and Islamic Studies, College of Health Sciences, Education and Extention Services, Law, Management Sciences, pharmaceutical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. As the development programme is actively pursued, the following Faculties will be established: Food Sciences and Engineering.
The University statute established the Center for Islamic Studies in 1982. Its aim, among others, is to promote the study of and research in islam, Its instructions and related disciplines and its culture with special reference to the northern states of Nigeria. The Center runs a Diploma programme in Islamic Studies, which started in 1983, to assist in the manpower development of the locality and the country at large. the Center also runs Certificate Courses in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto In November 1982, the Sokoto Energy Reserach Center was established at the instance of the Federal Government. The Center was created not only to execute research in solar energy, but also to train and develop manpower in that area.
The posgraduate school of the University was established in 1983 for the training of graduates in variuos disciplines at the Masters and Doctorate degree levels. At the convocation ceremony held in December , 1986, the school produced its first PhD graduate in Chemistry.
The University moved most of its faculties and Service Departments to the main campus in 1982. Phase 1 of Students’ hostels had already been completed and occupied.
The City Campus now houses the Faculty of Veterinary Medcine, the college of Health Sciences, Center for Islamic studies, Cibiyar Nazarin Hausa, the department of Extention Services, a few services units and three Halls of Residence for students’ accomodation. The universioty Catering guest House, now named the University Guest Inn Limited, which runs on commercial basis, is located at mabera Layout.
CENTRE FOR ADVANCED MEDICAL RESEARCH & TRAINING IN BRIEF
The Centre for Advanced Medical Research and Training (CAMRET) seeks to advance knowledge in the fields of Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences. The Center is involved in cutting-edge cross disciplinary research in drug discovery, immunotherapeutics and vaccine development against infectious diseases and cancer. Epigenetics and nutrigenomics research is also carried out in the Centre.Established in 2017 through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) special intervention fund, CAMRET is situated in the Teaching Hospital Campus of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. It is administered by a Coordinator and several Research Associates that are appointed by the Vice Chancellor from relevant Departments of the University. The Centre is divided into laboratories that house state-of-the-art molecular biology equipment, which are directly supervised by research assistants. It serves the research needs of the university staff, students and visitors.

Centre for Agric. & Pastoral Research
You are welcome to the official web page of the Centre for Agricultural and Pastoral Research (CAPAR), Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Nigeria. Sequel to approval by the Governing Council of the University, the Centre was established in April 2010 to promote research and development in agriculture and pastoralism. The authority, management, structure, research and development activities of the Centre are guided by an approved Statute. The University has been involved in teaching, research and community service in agricultural, veterinary and social sciences for about three decades.

The scientists in these fields have recorded landmark contributions to food and pastoral productions at the local, national and international levels. Thus, this Centre is an important outfit of the University for harnessing the material and human resources for effective research, capacity building, community service and dissemination of research findings in all areas of agriculture and pastoralism.The Centre is situated in Dabagi Farm, Kilometer 33 along Sokoto-Gusau road in the north-west agro-ecological zone of Nigeria.
The farm, which was originally established as a dairy farm, was acquired from the defunct Sokoto State Government by the University in 1985 for teaching and research activities. The farm has a total land area of 512 ha, comprising of 80 ha of arable land, 20 ha forest reserve and 412 ha of uncultivated land. A section of the farm has been developed for dairy facilities, feed mill and staff quarters.
Cibyar Nazarin Hausa
The Cibiyar Nazarin Hausa (centre for Hausa Studies) was established in October, 1983 as a research centre. Despite the existence of other research Centres for Liberal Arts, Cultures, African and Nigerian Languages (mostly performance and linguistically oriented)., this centre in the Usmanu [anfodiyo University, Sokoto is unique and first of its kind in the nation. It merits this statement, because it is solely devoted to the study of none culture and its scientific and social segments and all they encompass in various disciplines.
